Knee Replacement
Surgeryin Bangalore
Restoring mobility with advanced robotic-assisted precision. A customized approach to total and partial joint replacement.
Who Needs Knee
Replacement?
Knee replacement surgery replaces damaged cartilage and bone in the knee with artificial implants to relieve chronic pain from osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and injury.
- Chronic knee pain that prevents walking, climbing stairs, or sitting cross-legged.
- Osteoarthritis with bone-on-bone contact on X-ray.
- Rheumatoid arthritis or post-traumatic arthritis.
- Failure of medicines, physiotherapy, injections, and weight loss.
- Deformity - bow legs, knock knees, instability.
Dr. Lingaraju frequently treats patients with long-standing arthritis. A recent case involved a patient suffering from arthritis for 10 years, diabetic, who underwent right knee replacement, then left knee replacement within months, walking with a walker within a week's time.
Types of Knee Replacement
& Procedures
Total Knee Replacement (TKR)
The most common procedure. The entire joint surface is replaced with a metal and plastic implant. Dr. Lingaraju specializes in achieving perfect mechanical alignment to ensure the implant lasts 15-20 years.
Partial Knee Replacement
Replaces only the damaged compartment (usually the medial side). Results in faster recovery, smaller incision, and a more "natural" feeling knee.
Revision Knee Surgery
Complex procedure to replace a failed or infected older implant. Requires bone grafts and specialized constrained implants.
Robotic-Assisted Joint Replacement
Using cutting-edge robotic technology for sub-millimeter precision in bone cuts and implant placement, leading to less soft-tissue damage and faster rehabilitation.
Recovery Timeline
Day 0-1
Sit up, ankle pumps, stand with walker, physio starts. Pain controlled via epidural.
Day 2-3
Walk 20-30 feet with walker, climb 2-3 steps, discharge from Manipal Hospital Jayanagar or Sukruthi Clinic if vitals stable.
Week 1-2
Walker walking at home in Jayanagar / HSR / JP Nagar area, stitches removal Day 14, knee bending 90 degrees target.
Week 3-6
Transition to stick, knee bending 110-120 degrees, return to desk work, driving after 6 weeks with surgeon clearance.
Month 3
Most patients walk 1-2 km without support, climb stairs, return to daily activities.
